MPC Members Participate in "Virtual" Annual Meeting
Due to the COVID-19 outbreak and the cancellation of the Midwest Poultry Federation's Annual Convention, the Midwest Poultry Consortium had to get creative in order to take care of business normally conducted at its Annual Meeting. In addition to the acceptance of the treasurer's and secretary's reports via email ballot, acceptance of the nominating committee report resulted in the election of six board members. The board seats were filled by the following
individuals:
Zachary Simons, Nova-Tech Engineering (Allied)
Brad Rortvedt, Alltech (Allied)
Janelle Heesch, Pilgrim's (Broiler)
Julie Kelly, Michael Foods (Egg)
Peter Sonstegard, Sonstegard Foods Company (Egg)
Karen Taylor, West Liberty Foods (Turkey)
We
would like to recognize and thank these individuals for their willingness to serve on the MPC Board of Directors. We would also like to thank outgoing board members David Leavell (Farmer Automatic of America - Aggero), Gregg Veldman (Evonik Industries), K. Joseph Swanson (West Liberty Foods), and Carol Kratke (Michael Foods) for their many years of service to the Midwest Poultry Consortium.
Additionally, we would like to thank the membership of MPC for completing these tasks during a challenging time which is causing many organizations to get creative in how they complete their work.
Dr. Greg Fraley Receives MPC's Outstanding Service Award
Dr. Greg Fraley of Purdue University was the recipient of the Midwest Poultry Consortium's 2020 Outstanding Service Award. The award is given each year to an individual who exemplifies outstanding service to the Consortium and to the poultry industry as a whole.
Dr. Fraley has been an integral part of MPC’s Center of Excellence Scholarship/Internship (COE) Program for many years, having served as a faculty member of the Avian Physiology Course since 2012. Even though Greg was not a faculty member at one of MPC's member institutions until recently (he was a faculty member at Hope College prior to Purdue University), he still volunteered his time and talents to the COE program due to his strong belief in the cause and mission of the program. Additionally, students who have been taught by Greg always rate him very highly due to his ability to relate his coursework to real-world applications.
In recognition of Dr. Fraley's years of service to the Midwest Poultry Consortium, it is with great thanks and appreciation that we award him the 2020 Outstanding Service Award. Congratulations, Greg!

The COE experience isn’t complete without the industry internships offered by our valuable sponsors. Every student who attends COE on a full scholarship will complete a summer internship with one of our sponsors at the conclusion of the COE classes. But we need your help as an MPC sponsor! Please contact us for a list of remaining internship needs in health, communication, meat science, and production.
If you are able to host an intern this coming summer, please contact Chelsea Russell at 651.766.8118 ormpc@mwpoultry.org. The sooner you inform us of your internship opportunity, the sooner we can make the best possible match for both you and our students.
The Midwest Poultry Consortium has a great resource to connect people looking for careers in the poultry industry with MPC sponsor companies seeking to fill positions with qualified candidates.
MPC's jobs page is a handy tool allowing prospective, past, and current COE students to learn about industry career opportunities. It also allows MPC sponsor companies a convenient way to reach COE students who may be interested in applying for open positions. The jobs page can be found under the Center of Excellence tab of the MPC website or by clicking here.
MPC sponsors looking to post a position on the jobs page should email a job description with application information to mpc@mwpoultry.org. Job openings are also promoted on MPC's social media sites.
